A native of Spotsylvania County, VA, with degrees in Art, Education and Educational Media and Instructional Design, Pam has nurtured a lifelong love of pottery that began in high school. After graduating from JMU, she taught for several years in Orange and Stafford counties.
In 1983, after spending the summer as an indentured servant in a pottery studio, where she waited on customers and swept up in exchange for wheel and firing time, she left Fredericksburg to pursue a graduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill.
She spent 30+ years in the corporate world, as an instructional designer, building training and performance support systems for industry and the government, but always managed to find a way to keep her hands in clay.
She returned to Fredericksburg in 2011; rehabbed a 170 year old property on main street, and opened Pamdora's (an artisan gift shop featuring her pottery and the work of 8 other local artists) at 1109 Caroline St. in 2017.
The COVID pandemic caused her to close the shop, and she now sells her work at local craft fairs, farmer's markets and at the Rutherford County Visual Arts Center, where she also teaches pottery.
After retiring, Pam and Jim moved to the Carolina foothills to fulfill Jim's life dream of "living in a round house on a mountain". Studio construction has been delayed due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, but Pam is a participating member of the Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild, and you can find her work in their gallery.
She is also exhibiting in a number of local shows and festivals.
